Attention Union meeting first Wedensday of EVERY month.

As a proud to be Union member I want to thank all who attended, it was a good meeting with lots of healthy debate. I want to thank brother Wingnut for his passion. You may not all agree with him but untill you share his dedication to brotherhood and this local please don't judge. Tonight we had a chance to vote on a motion to support OMOV, it got voted down. Incase your reading this and you were in support of this it only lost by one vote. It's crazy that we are a local with 665 members and we let 57 people decide our future. Horrible that's less then 10%. I believe we have over 40% out of work, so where are you? We can only be strong if we unite. There is 154 wiremen on the book, 87 or so apprentices, we need to see more people at the meetings. Please I challenge you all bring a fellow brother or sister, call them and get them to the meetings. we need to get all the shoppies to attend. I bet you all would show the month your precious shops closed the doors. Remember your part of local 440, it's not local daniels, Gregg or Irs. I know your in your comfort zone but it's your future. Don't cry to me when you get your check and it's for less, or you get a letter that says congradulations your now working untill 75, yes sarcastic but I think you get the point. I look forward to seeing you all next month, when I say all I'm hoping all of you who read this and know you should have been to tonights meeting. It just sucks because I see people get sworn in, I see them on a job once and a while but I often wonder where the heck is everyone?????

I for one was fallin asleep on the 91 fwy. I'm quite pissed at myself for missin the meeting and finding out that the vote went the way it did. I was just toooo tired and needed to get some rest. That's the first meeting I've missed in a long time...just goes to show you that EVERY VOTE COUNTS. Hopefully we can bring it up again for a re-vote. I'll see y'all at the next one....promise.

good post although i think you are wasting your breathe.... its the same 40 or 50 people every single month and i know its been like that since i've been involved, and probably long before that...... i think when we are in school and they only let us out for money votes teaches us that the money votes are the only thing that is important.... ever thought about that?

I think your absolutely right Kasey, I think we should try and change the policy, get people involved early on so that we can make brotherhood stronger from day one. Apprentices should be able to go to the meetings, as long as they are at school or the meeting it should count as present for school. If they miss the meeting and are not at school then have it count towards a absense. We can't just waite untill everyone turns out to teach them about the correct union ways.
