STATEMENT FROM THE BUSINESS MANAGER REGARDING “STAY AT HOME” EXECUTIVE ORDER N-33-20

Good Evening Brothers and Sisters,

As most of you have heard Governor Newsom has issued a “Stay at Home” Executive Order for the entire state. This order has provided a lot of confusion as it relates to our construction jobs. As it stands, we do not have a clear definition as to what this all means, and we are working to get clarity on this matter. As it stands now, we want to provide the following guidance as it relates to work until we get more information.

1. Until you are notified by your employer that your specific site is shutdown report to work, we are not clear as to what is “essential” work is just yet so until we have a clear definition and are notified, or the contractor is notified we will continue as normal
2. If you do not feel comfortable going to work under this Executive Order, please call your employer in the morning and notify them that you will not be on site.
3. Should you continue to work for the time being please take the necessary precautions with regard to the COVID-19 virus. Practice social distancing on site, wash your hands, and limit your travel with regards to going to work and going home only.
4. If your site has been shut down due to the Executive Order please notify the Hall and/or a Business Representative immediately so we can monitor the situation regarding that site and provide direction to you.

We are in unprecedented times in our nation and now is the time to collectively work together for the greater health of all. Know that the staff at Local 440 is working around the clock to monitor this situation and will take the necessary measures to provide every resource available to our members and their families. We will be providing updates on this matter as we receive them. For more information on the Executive Order handed down by Governor Newsom go to covid19.ca.gov.
